Athens, May 14, 2004 – OTEGlobe signed 16 new interconnection services contracts with major foreign companies for the “Athens 2004” Olympic Games TV-signal transmission. More specifically, OTEGlobe has undertaken projects concerning the interconnection of 11 countries from 4 different continents to Greece for the radio-TV coverage of the Olympic Games that will take place this summer in our country.
After a thorough evaluation process of offers submitted by other international carriers, OTEGlobe was the only carrier appointed to exclusively implement and manage all Olympic Game interconnection projects amounting to a total of more than 2.500.000 €. It is noteworthy that these projects demand aggregate capacity of more than 18 STM-1, which is considered to be amongst the highest that has ever been used in the history of the Olympic Games. In addition, it is important to mention that for the first quarter of 2004 the value of new contracts for the provisioning of international network services exceeds the amount of 9.000.000 euro. Broadcasting organizations from countries like Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Hong Kong and New Zealand, as well as telecommunication companies from countries like Brazil, China, England, Germany, Japan, Korea and U.S.A., constitute the partners of OTEGlobe in these projects.
The main requirement of these companies, apart from satisfying their basic interconnection need, is the guaranteed uninterrupted and seamless operation of their networks, as well as, the high redundancy and security levels so as to ensure excellent TV-radio coverage of the Olympic Games. OTEGlobe’s international services reliability, integrated technological support and competitive prices were the main factors that led them to finally award OTEGlobe the implementation of these specific projects. The projects will be provisioned over the new international network of OTE, GWEN, whose commercial management belongs to OTEGlobe. GWEN’s infrastructure relies on state-of-the art DWDM and SDH technologies, delivering full end-to-end connectivity by a single provider at very high speeds (>34Mbps). Additionally, being redundant at all levels and featuring SNCP protection, as well as continuous monitoring, the new international network guarantees uninterrupted operation, excellent quality & performance characteristics.
